European Court of Human Rights opens a proceeding in Amic Ukraine’s lawsuit against Russia

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has opened proceedings for the case titled “Company with foreign investments Amic Ukraine v. Russia” following a lawsuit filed by Amic Ukraine CFI against the Russian Federation.

On January 14. 2023, AMIC Ukraine CFI submitted a lawsuit to the ECHR, alleging that Russia violated Article 1 of Protocol 1 to the European Convention of Human Rights, which guarantees the right to peaceful possession of property. AMIC Ukraine also highlighted Russia’s violation of the basic principles of the United Nations and international humanitarian law and human rights in general.

AMIC Ukraine CFI’s claim against Russia seeks compensation for damages due to the actions of the aggressor country in specific regions of Ukraine, namely Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhya. The preliminary estimation of the claimed damages exceeds UAH 300 million (approximately EUR 8.5 million).
