In a significant initiative to enhance journalistic practices in the digital age, CFC Big Ideas has partnered with the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) to conduct a series of training workshops focused on the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism. The program kicked off with two on-site training sessions held in Bangkok, Thailand, from September 5 to 7, and in Noida, India, from September 22 to 24. Additionally, a webinar for journalists in the Philippines took place on September 26, aiming to equip media professionals with the necessary skills to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of AI technologies.
The workshops were designed to stress test the latest AI advancements and their applications in journalism. Participants engaged in discussions about the ethical implications of AI, exploring its potential to transform news production and dissemination. The training emphasized practical applications, including automated content creation and the personalization of user experiences, which are becoming increasingly vital in the competitive media environment. By focusing on these areas, the program aimed to empower journalists to leverage AI effectively while maintaining ethical standards in their reporting.
In a parallel effort, a three-day conference took place in Lome, Togo, from September 25 to 27, specifically tailored for 40 USAGM affiliates from Francophone Africa. This conference included a two-day training session dedicated to exploring how AI can enhance media operations. Participants were introduced to various AI tools and techniques, gaining insights into optimizing advertising campaigns and improving audience engagement. The combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on workshops provided attendees with a comprehensive understanding of AI’s role in modern journalism.
CFC Big Ideas was the main organizer of these training sessions, overseeing budget planning, financial management, and logistical arrangements. The team was responsible for securing venues, coordinating accommodation and travel for participants and trainers, and ensuring effective communication among all stakeholders.
