Mika Newton, the Ukrainian participant of the Eurovision Song Contest,2011 in Düsseldorf, finished fourth, after Azerbaijan, Italy, and Sweden took the first, second, and third places respectively. Though some ESC experts had predicted Ukraine’s high rankings in the finals, this result came as a surprise to many Ukrainian ESC fans. After the second rehearsal, Mika Newton advanced significantly in the rankings—from one of the last positions, she progressed to one of the favorites. Many Eurovision experts assessed Mika Newton’s performance highly. Her powerful vocal talent was enhanced by a touching story in the form of sand animation.
